LOCATION:

St Helena Views is a quiet suburb located in St Helena Bay, close to the ocean where peace and tranquillity is found. Saint Helena Bay on the West Coast of South Africa is predominantly a fishing town. In winter it is host to many fishing activities, where snoek is found in its waters, as well as an endangered species of rock lobster and crayfish. St Helena Bay is known as one of the calmest bays on the West Coast and you will often find ships anchored in the bay waiting to continue to their destination. St Helena Bay is the only area along the South African West Coast where the sun rises across the bay. This is a unique location, whereby the town itself faces north east and almost north. The region of Saint Helena Bay is sub-divided into various suburbs, namely (from east to west): Laingville, West Point, Steenberg's Cove, Hannasbaai, Britannica Heights, Harbour Lights, Sandy Point, Blueberry Hill, Columbine, Mid-West and it incorporates the neighbouring towns of Stompneusbaai and Britannia Bay. It includes a total of eighteen smaller bays. St Helena Bay is approximately 150km from Cape Town.

TOURISM AND EVENTS:

St Helena Bay was discovered by Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama in 1497, on the actual site of Vasco da Gama's arrival is a monument. Heaviside’s dolphins, as well as dusky and common dolphins visit the bay in search of food, and the calm waters give shelter to the southern right whales that come to mate and calve in the second half of the year. Humpback and killer whales are also frequent visitors. It is also a very popular destination during the annual spring wildflower season. Saint Helena Bay is regular host to the St Helena Bay Sea Festival. This event is hosted by the town's Tourism association and takes place annually in December during the South African summer season. Surrounding areas of interest include attractions such as the Cape Columbine Lighthouse and nature reserve (19.7 km from St Helena Bay), Paternoster, Port Owen Marina and Darling. A choice of restaurants, coffee, art and curios shops.

Nearby we have a variety of sporting options which include Shelley Point 9-hole links golf course, horse-riding on the beach, surfing, fishing, water sport, boating & nearby Port Owen offering yachting.

FAUNA AND FLORA:

St Helena Bay’s free roaming wildlife includes a diversity such as steenbok, duiker, rabbits, tortoises, caracal, meerkat, squirrel, occasional strandwolf. A rich variety of birdlife, frequent blue crane and heron sightings, African marsh harrier, kingfishers, grey heron, Cape spurfowl, guinea fowl, African darter, black-winged stilt, great white pelican, greater and lesser flamingo, gulls and terns. St Helena Bay is a birdwatcher’s paradise and being at the southernmost point of the migratory route from Europe and the Steppes of Russia makes it a must-visit spot for twitchers.
