Gravity flood irrigation, and water is supplied from numerous sources namely; Floriskraal Dam, Touws River, Groot River and Knuy River river, all water rights are registered with the Buffelsrivier Water scheme.

The farm has an abundance of water storage capacity, when all the dams are full most of the farm can be irrigated twice. The lucerne beds originate from 1995 – 2000. Regular laser levelling of the beds has been done. Sandy loam soil is the dominant soil type on this farm. The outfield is currently utilized as grazing for goats (1,000 ewes) and cattle (300 cattle). Another addition to the outfield is the capacity to feed and grow 14,000 ostriches. Camps and infrastructure are not in use at the moment. The average rainfall for the region is 300mm – 350mm per annum.

In this region one can expect a yield 12 - 15 tonnes of lucerne per hectare per year. Current winter price per tonne is R5,000. Lucerne seed production can vary from 300kg – 500kg per hectare with a current price of R130 per kg. Normal season will be 6 cuts per year with 1 seed harvest. With good rains the possibility is there to do another 2 cuts are possible in winter, for silage.
