The farm is Eskom-free - the main house and Barn has solar power.
The wider setting:
Nowadays, there’s not much in the way of commercial farming in Groenfontein - it’s all about living the good life and tourism. That said, with 700+ mature olive trees, and a fenced in vege garden, there’s more than enough at Klipkraal to scratch your farming itch.
On the tourism side, Klipkraal Karoo Cottage has proved very popular in the past - plenty glowing guest reviews available on request - and a nice little income-generator.
The farm offers general chilling and several marked walks along the river lei path, and up and around the encircling mountains. A walk at Klipkraal is never complete without a dunk in river plunge pool - AKA 'The Riviera'.
Groenfontein itself is tailor-built for mountain bikes, with plenty birdlife on route, and the occasional shy baboon. For port and wine tasting, Peter Bayly Winery is 1km up the road (best port this side of the universe), and, of course, there's Calitzdorp, 13km down the dirt road, with a smattering of decent restaurants, an OK supermarket and enough historic interest. Oudsthoorn is 63km in the other direction, with its own attractions, among them the Cango Caves, ostrich farms, museums and restaurants. Up the vallleys and over the Swarberg Pass, Prince Albert makes a fun daytrip.
For the aspiring hobby farmer/tourism operator/rat-race escapee, this unique property could well be your dream come true.
