You can now move during Alert Level 4 - and these are the documents you'll need

08 May 2020

The state has come to its senses and allowed people who have been severely impacted by the restrictions to move house - to do so, up until 7 June.

The rules, announced by Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma on Thursday evening, 7 May - now allow people to move if they have entered into a new lease agreement, either before or during lockdown, or where they have bought new homes and the transfer of the property has already gone through.

Once off movement for tenants and home owners apply as follows:

  • If a new lease agreement was entered into before or during lockdown* ie, before 30 April 2020;
  • If the transfer of immovable property occurred before the lockdown* period ie, before 27 March 2020;
These tenants and home owners can move to their new place of residence between 7 May and 7 June 2020. The transportation of household furniture and effects is permitted for the purpose of relocation.
