For parents who want their children to have access to the best academic and sporting opportunities available, living close to good schools is a ticket to their children's long-term success.
With property prices ranging from R2m to R4m, the greater Sandton, Pretoria Metro, Alberton, and Germiston offer access to some of Gauteng’s best schools:
Pretoria Metro
Pretoria Metro offers buyers a wide range of options between R2 million and R4 million, according to Retha Schutte, Pam Golding Properties regional executive for Pretoria Metro.
“They can buy across all suburbs and R3.5 million to R4 million represents the higher end of the market in most in Centurion, Pretoria East, Pretoria North, Moot and Montana, suburbs such as Faerie Glen, Garsfontien, Lynnwoods, Moreletapark, Lyttelton, Amberfield, Eldorainge, Wierdapark, and the entry level in areas such as Booklyn, Waterkloof, Waterkloof Ridge, Lynnwood Proper and Irene.”
She says the price range may exclude the more exclusive lifestyle estates, but most of the estates do have properties between R3.4 million to R4 million as their entry-level properties, including Silver Lakes, Six Fountains and surrounds, Woodhill, The Wilds and surrounds, Midstream, Irene Farm Villages, Centurion Gold Estate, Country Lane and surrounds.
"The above suburbs are conveniently positioned with easy access to schools both private and public, all amenities, shopping centres, highways, entertainment, etc."

Sandton
Magaliessig is a small suburb with the best access to main roads and highways. The area offers a fair split between sectional titles and freestanding homes, says Jade Eblen, Pam Golding Properties area manager in Fourways.
“Freestanding cluster homes with three- and four-bedrooms and two to three bathrooms are most common in the R2 million to R4 million price range. The area offers the Design Quarter which is an upmarket shopping centre that also offers great restaurants and dining experience.”

Craigavon doesn’t have many freestanding homes available anymore. Only the odd piece of land will be bought for development. A lot of the properties in Craigavon are zoned as sectional title but are freestanding cluster/townhouse style and not the typical apartment style, according to Eblen.
She says most homes between R2million to R4 million are three- and four-bedroom houses. Not many properties list for above R4 million except for in the exclusive Fernbrook Estate.
“The area offers good schools and amenities such as Crawford Prep and Crawford Fourways, and retail: Cedar Square Shopping Centre, Fourways Mall Shopping Centre, medical facilities include Fourways Life Hospital. It is also a closed off suburb with only two entrances and exits so it does create a community environment.”
A variety of homes in the R2 million to R4 million price range. These would consist of freestanding homes as well as clusters offering three-four bedrooms.
There is a handful of new sectional title developments such as residences that are for sale between the R2 million to R4 million price range.
Lonehill is in a great location with easy access to Lonehill Shopping Centre, Crawford Lonehill Prep and Primary, many nursery schools, Lonehill Park, Lonehill Koppie (Nature Reserve).
A huge attraction to Lonehill is the LRA (Lonehill Residence Association) – that provides extra security to the suburb, additional clean ups to keep the streets clean and safe as well as to host community functions, get togethers, notes Eblen.
