Wood tables can add a classical edge to your home décor, with a look that never fades. You can create an expensive-looking dining room in an inexpensive way by using laminate flooring.
Making a table from laminate flooring is an easy and affordable way to match your existing decor. Here’s how…
You will need:
1 large piece of 3/4″ plywood
8 metal corner brackets
2 1/2″ wood screws
1/2″ screws
Acrylic sealer
Wood glue
Woodoc 5 or 10 interior sealer
Stain to match flooring choice
Woodoc steel wool
Paintbrush
1. You can cut the planks to any length, but keep the width limited to four planks across.
2. Use 76 x 76mm or 100 x 100mm pine for the legs and take the time to sand to a smooth finish.
Top tip:
Start off with 120-grit sandpaper to remove any loose splinters and then finish up with 180- or 220-grit sanding pads
3. Use 20 x 76mm strips to create an apron below the table. Glue the apron to the bottom of the laminate strip sections. Clamp in place until the glue has dried.
Top tip:
Mitre the corners for a neat finish and then glue and clamp. If you have a pockethole jig, this is perfect for joining the corner sections.
4. Once the glue has dried measure and cut a sheet of 16mm PG Bison Board to fit within the fitted apron and apply wood glue to stick to the laminate strip sections. This will give your table added strength and ensure that the laminate strips do not move around.
5. Position the legs at each corner and drill through the sides of the apron to secure the leg firmly.
Add corner braces to the exposed side and attach to the sides and secure to the base of the Bison Board.
6. Stain and seal the apron and leg sections in your choice of timber colour. You can mix the stain concentrate into the sealer for consistent colour. You need to apply three coats of Woodoc sealer (5 or 10) with a light sanding between the first and second coat.
