Tranquil lifestyle east of Pretoria

17 Mar 2006
A mere 15 kilometres east of Pretoria lies a lifestyle opportunity unique in its surrounds and unrivalled in its offerings. Waterlake Farm is situated on 300 hectares of undisturbed landscape, formerly owned by the Bester family of the well-known Bester Homes. The original farm structure remains untouched, providing a unique opportunity to experience farm life at its finest!

A 20 hectare dam accompanied by a series of smaller dams sprawl across the estate and 320 full title erven line the edges of these smaller dams, allowing for unsurpassed views of daybreaks and sunsets over stretching waters and bushveld landscapes. The erven, 1000 m² in size are being released in April this year and new homeowners will have the choice of five fine architectural styles, designed by the well-known Pretoria architects, W.P. Bosch and Elise van Gass.

The Melrose style is derived from the colonial baronial period and is reminiscent of a period where lavish entertainment was the order of the day. Plastered and painted walls with detailing on gables and above the windows form a unique sense of opulence and serenity. Roofs with small overhangs are constructed from corrugated Victorian sheet metal with little colour. This, in a sense, is a gentleman's house where his family can reside while he is away on business.

The Westminster style can be described as similar to Sir Herbert Baker's Edwardian Freestyle with a mix of Elizabethan English and Dutch elements. The gables represent some that can be found on the Flemish countryside with tiled roofs forming low eaves. The colonnaded "stoep" gives protection from the sun whilst sandstone is used in combination with plastered walls and columns.

The Apiesdoringdraai style consists of a Colonial Gothic farmhouse without the trimmings. It incorporates informal architecture with straight end gables, corrugated iron roofs and attic-type windows. The style has a double-storey section and back verandah.

Turenne Style can be best described as Cape vernacular with a French Huguenot influence. Window proportions are based on French casements and Venetians. It can be identified by its lack of deliberate symmetry with a wide-open verandah, whitewashed walls, shutters and tiled roofs.

The Worton style is a Queen Anne revival in a colonial tradition, featuring simple red brickwork with white trelliswork. Double balconies with delicate trelliswork enclose the main structure to create a gaiety in what might otherwise be a somber character!

Waterlake farm provides the ideal environment to raise a family. Abundant with bushveld vegetation, over 300 bird species and wildlife, the opportunities are endless for exploration. Family time allows for picnics and bird watching on the waters edge.

Non-motorised activities such as kayaking, canoeing and tag-and-release fishing will keep dad and kids occupied for hours on end whilst mum takes advantage of the estate's squash court, gymnasium, tennis courts or merely relaxes on the verandah with a cup of herbal tea.

For the more adventurous, equestrian facilities comprising stables, training areas and a bridle path make it possible for owners to explore on horseback and to keep their horses close to home.

State-of-the-art 24 hour security adds to the peace of mind with guarded remote access control, electrified game fencing and estate patrol. Waterlake Farm is only minutes from the city center and within close proximity to the Silver Lakes Golf Course, Wilgers hospital and Kitty Hawk airfield, removing you from the city rush yet positioning you close to modern conveniences.

Although the official launch is in April, pre-launch selling to selected purchasers are already in process. Erven are priced From R650 000 to R1 200 000.
