Traditional CT areas still popular

28 Nov 2008
Cape Town's "traditionally good" suburban precincts remain to this day the first choice of a certain section of the buying population, says a leading property figure.

"If you are young, with-it and upwardly mobile you will probably opt for Fresnaye or Constantia but for perhaps some buyers there is still nothing quite so attractive as an old Kenilworth home or one on the Rondebosch Golden Mile precinct," says Lanice Steward, managing director of Anne Porter Knight Frank (APKF).

"Homes here may to some seem old-fashioned but their conservative solidness and their Victorian and Edwardian features are exactly what appeals to the traditionally-minded Cape Town buyer – and I do not believe this will ever change."

A traditional Rondebosch Golden Mile home has just come on to the market. It has a massive entrance hall, a large living room with a fireplace, a dining room, study and TV room (all with air-conditioning) and wooden floors.

A sweeping staircase leads to four first floor bedrooms and two bathrooms and in the garden there is a big pool. A double garage and off-street parking can together take four cars.
