Take a peek: SA pop star’s Midrand mansion selling for R18.5m

12 Dec 2017

An exquisite country mansion in Saddlebrook Estate that belongs to former advocate and now singer and songwriter, Christall Kay, is on exclusive sole mandate with Seeff Sandton for R18.5 million.

The home, that was featured on Top Billing in 2014, is set on 14 951sqm of rolling lawns, meticulously maintained rose gardens, and has panoramic views of Johannesburg, says Chris Paxton from Seeff who is marketing the home.

“The American Colonial-style architecture with strong influences from the neoclassical scene, radiates superior luxury, and chandeliers and mirrors inspired by the Versailles period adorn the open plan living areas,” says Paxton.

“There is also a piano lounge, formal lounge, formal dining area, finely crafted mahogany bar, informal lounge, family room and informal dining area equipped with a butler’s station, and the designer kitchen is fitted with imported Italian Carrara marble countertops, while the separate scullery has a walk in refrigerator.

“Even though all five bedrooms and six bathrooms in this home are remarkable, the master bedroom includes a gas fireplace, private balcony, walk-in dressing room furnished with garments and shoes the lady of the mansion purchased from all around the globe, and a full-en suite bathroom.”

Paxton adds that the property is suited for equestrian use, with four stables, a tack/feed room, two large white-fenced paddocks and a lunging arena.

Additional features include underfloor heating, air conditioning, a wine cellar, generator, bore hole and state of the art security features.

“Saddlebrook Estate is an idyllic secure enclave in Kyalami that is just a short commute to Sandton's business and retail hub,” says Paxton.

He says the estate, where eight properties have changed hands in 2017, is one of the safest residential estates in the country, and includes many bridle paths, communal areas and jogging tracks

“Although you don’t need to own a horse, or even ride to live in Saddlebrook Estate, you will have to like horses, because you will probably be living next door to one,” says Paxton.

“Starting at one hectare, the residential stands are big enough to include a few four-hoofed family members, so most residents keep their horses ‘in their backyards’.”

One of the major expenses beyond the purchase price of a home is transfer costs and bond registration fees. It can take time to save up enough to cover these upfront costs, so the sooner buyers start thinking about this, the better.

Negotiation is a process. Sometimes, a low offer is just the starting point for a fair deal. An agent can help bridge the gap between buyer and seller expectations and can let you know when it’s best to move on.
