St Francis remains a national hit

05 Sep 2006
St Francis is popular among holidaymakers and investors because of its position on the Garden Route between Plettenberg Bay and Jeffrey's Bay. This has led a local agency to align itself with a well known SA estate group to increase its market reach.

SA real estate group Homenet has gained a new member in St Francis, thanks to the conversion of the three-year-old Lifestyle Realty International estate agency to its national brand.

"Most buyers in St Francis come from Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Cape Town so it makes sense for us to tie in with a large and well-established group such as Homenet to reach our target market," says manager Richard Finsen.

"And the residential area around The Canals, a unique tidal marine system at the mouth of the Krom River, is especially popular because all properties have access to the waterfront. In fact, many homes have jetties leading off decks that enable owners to step straight into their boats."

"The system is also home to a rich variety of birds and the river offers excellent fishing and boating opportunities."

The Village, a residential area on the main beach, also offers homes in the distinctive Cape architectural style featuring white walls and thatch roofs, and a third distinctive area is Santarene, where homes in the Mediterranean style predominate.

Finsen says most activity in the St Francis market is taking place in the R2m to R3,5m range for free-standing homes. However, prime properties can fetch prices of up to R13m.

Sectional title units are relatively rare in St Francis, but there are some, at prices from around R1m for a two-bedroom unit with a view to as much as R5m, depending on size and location.
