"We have had a fantastic reception in the local market, to such an extent that we have already appointed three new agents and an administrative assistant,” says owner, Ansie Koekemoer.

“And now we have several more sales contracts pending for homes as well as farms, in spite of the serious drought currently putting pressure on the local agricultural sector.”

She says the team includes Manda Schoonis who has working in the residential market in Vryburg, Francois van der Bergh who joined the agency as an agricultural specialist and Mario Afonso who manning a new satellite office in Delareyville.

“Chenene Feldhaus is in charge of admin at our Vryburg office, and we are confident of an even stronger showing in the local market next year thanks to our bigger and dedicated sales team," says Koekemoer.

The franchise has also made an impact in surrounding areas, evidenced by the need for a satellite office in Delareyville about 80 kilometres from Vryburg, as well as the fact that it has listed several homes for sale in areas as far afield as Schweizer-Reneke 65 kilometres away.

Koekemoer says Vryburg homes in the R1 million to R1.6 million price range are in demand.

"But, the first home we sold was special. The one bedroom cottage on a panhandle was sold to a first-time buyer and we thus had a good reason for a double celebration," she says.

In spite of severe drought conditions, farmland is still in demand, says Ansie's partner Louis Koekemoer. "Buyers from Gauteng, who want to turn their hand to extensive beef farming in their retirement, are scouting for suitable land and we are currently finalising our first farm sale."

Farm prices currently vary between R4 500/hectares for farms of up to 10 000 hectares in the drier areas suitable for extensive commercial beef production, and about R7 000/hectares for smaller 500 hectares to 2 000 hectares units suitable for mixed farming.

If selling your property is on your 2025 to-do list, now is the time to start planning for success. With buyers actively searching for well-priced homes, sellers who take the right approach can achieve great results.

With a property portfolio currently consisting of over 9,500 apartments, Houss Rentals has a vacancy rate of less than 2.5%, which is a fantastic achievement as it is way below industry standard. They attribute this to three key factors: the convenience of their systems, the collection of units on offer and lastly is the consistency of their service offerings.

When selling property, you are essentially dealing with two competing interests, that of the seller who wants to get the highest possible price, and the buyer who wants to pay the lowest possible price.
