Work has begun on the clubhouse and temporary frail-care facility onsite at
The Retreat, the multimillion rand retirement village in
Hazeldean, the new suburb taking shape to the east of
Pretoria.
This follows the launch a few months ago of the first phase of houses at The Retreat, which is being developed specifically to address the need of retirees to have security of lifestyle in the longer-term.
Tobie Lochner of developer Sable Homes notes: "While adequate living space, labour-saving designs, good physical security and low maintenance are very important considerations when buying a retirement home, "it is also vital to ensure that your purchase includes guaranteed access to continuing care as you age.
"Many so-called retirement villages do not actually offer this, but residents of The Retreat will have the benefit of an onsite long-term healthcare facility, professionally managed by Intercare, as well as access to several other levels of health care such as clinic check ups, in-home day visits, assisted living, in-home total care and recovery care."
The permanent frail-care facility will have 72 private rooms and operate as a fully-fledged 24-hour service.
There will also be a clubhouse/ community centre within the estate, with a dining room and professional kitchens, a snooker room, heated pool, small gym, reading room, doctors' rooms, therapy rooms and hair and beauty salon.
The Retreat is the fifth residential development by Sable Homes in
Hazeldean, which also houses the new Hazeldean Square shopping centre with Pick 'n Pay and Woolworths as anchor tenants and the Virgin
Active gym currently under construction, as well as the
Tijger Vallei office park and two schools.
Hazeldean will ultimately cost a total of more than R5bn to develop and will include some 18 000 new homes in several estates. It is expected to boost the rates base of the Kungwini local authority by some R180m.
