Property24 wins Best Online Classifieds at PriceCheck E-Commerce Awards

10 Sep 2018

Property24 has, for the second year running, won Best Online Classifieds Service in the 2018 PriceCheck Tech & E-Commerce Awards, held at The Westin Cape Town Hotel on 30 August.

The Awards aim to recognise outstanding South African businesses, organisations and individuals in the e-commerce and technology industries.

They also encourage up-and-coming tech businesses that are innovating, and tell us where consumers go for a ‘great online experience’.

At this stage, online shopping accounts for only 2% of total retail in SA and is growing faster than the traditional market, according to founder and CEO of PriceCheck, Kevin Tucker, reported in a recent Fin24 article, and this represents a huge opportunity for growth.

“We are delighted to have won this accolade for the second year in a row,” says JP Farinha, CEO of Property24. “At Property24 we strive to constantly improve the experience of searching for a home online, so winning this award makes me very proud of the work the team has done over the year.”

Entrants into the Best Online Classifieds Service category included property, car, accommodation and other consumer-to-consumer listings platforms, with Gumtree and Bike Hub in the final lineup, and Property24 taking home top honours.

Now in its third year, 35 500 votes were cast in this year’s PriceCheck Awards with 41 organisations and individuals shortlisted across 14 categories.

A month-long public nomination process began in June whereafter entrants were shortlisted via a public voting process. Winners were selected by a panel of judges, in their own right leading innovators in the online and tech space, including Lynette Hundermark, Geoff Cohen, Boitumelo Menyatswe, Elsamari Botha, Matthew Buckland, Michele Iozzo, Bryan Nelson, Tom Jackson and Lindsey Schutters.

Takealot took home four out of 14 awards, including the overall People's Choice award for the most popular tech or e-commerce platform for the second year in a row, with Travelstart bagging Best Mobile Shopping Experience and Uber, Best On-Demand Service.
