Silver Lakes Golf Estate in the east of Pretoria is one of the largest residential estates in South Africa.

Silver Lakes Golf Estate in the east of Pretoria is one of the largest residential estates in South Africa and offers top-end buyers the chance to own a home that can readily be compared with some of the most luxurious mansions in the country.

The estate offers top-end buyers the chance to own a home that can be compared with some of the most luxurious mansions in the country, says Seeff Pretoria East Agent, Pieter van der Merwe.

Many mansions on the golf estate have been designed by renowned South African architects and incorporate the latest in home management systems, environmentally conscious applications and the latest in built technology. Security is ranked with the best in the country and its professional security personnel are on duty 24 hours a day. While privacy is sacred, a number of corporate business leaders and celebrities have made the estate their residence of choice.

However, it is the environment and the Highveld setting that have ensured the estate retains its high status amongst the top-ranked golf estates. It was one of the first security estates in the country to combine an exclusive residential development with an 18-hole championship golf course and the golf course is ranked amongst the top 50 courses in the country. It derives its name from the numerous lakes around which the course was built, with ‘silver’ reflections at sunrise, hence ‘Silver Lakes’.

This three bedroom, three bathroom home in Silver Lakes Golf Estate has open plan living spaces, a home theatre, a bar and an open plan kitchen. The property has an enclosed spit braai area, a heated swimming pool and two garages, as well as staff quarters. It is on the market for R6.95 million - click here to view.

With its green championship golf course, walking trails and nature reserve, it is one of few estates where game can roam freely amongst the exclusive properties. The various lakes, dams and natural areas provide an ideal environment for more than 140 bird species and a large variety of animals.

Besides the signature golf course, the estate offers fishing from natural dams and there are two tennis courts and two squash courts. The clubhouse offers a full a la carte restaurant, intimate golf bar, and full banqueting facilities for any special occasion.

The estate consists of freehold property (about 92 percent) and there are a small number of sectional title units available. The majority of property (about 40 percent) is priced between R5 million and R10 million, while about 22 percent range between the R10 million and R15 million mark. Close to 36 percent of properties are priced between R2 million and R5 million.

Vacant land of 1 300 square metres is available at R1 million and a townhouse with two bedrooms costs R845 000. To date 26 sales have been made in the estate this year at a value of R67 million.

This four bedroom, four bathroom home has three reception areas, a spa bath and large living spaces. The property has a large landscaped garden and a swimming pool. It is on the market for R10.5 million - click here to view.

At the moment, Van der Merwe is marketing a modern master design nestled in a cul de sac that probably has the best location in the estate. The size of the stand is 3 000 square metres, the size under roof is 1 500 square metres and it is for sale at R15.5 million.

The home has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, three lounges and four garages and the kitchen has a pantry and scullery. There is a study, gym, theatre, large patio with braai and special features like a steam room and jacuzzi. Air conditioners, under floor heating, a home automation system and three-phase electricity is included.

There is a swimming pool on the deck and the home has an alarm system and perimeter wall. A relationship between balance and serenity has been established with the modern design and the use of balconies, windows and spacious rooms. All the elements, including the elevated walkways and layout of the rooms have been planned for the views. The unsupported build-in staircases create an elevated effect which is infused with the modern theme and design.  The property was designed by a residential, national and regional award winning team.
