PGP launches new office

08 May 2009
Residential property along the Eastern Cape's Wild Coast is in high demand with prices stable and unaffected by current property trends.

This is due to the limited availability of title and demand for property in the area of Port St Johns and elsewhere, says Dr Andrew Golding, CE of the Pam Golding Property group.

The PGP group, whose chairman and founder Mrs Pam Golding grew up and attended school in Mthatha, has launched an office in Port St Johns on the Wild Coast headed up by Wayne Rubidge, area principal and manager of the Pam Golding Nature Portfolio of Properties, who is also area principal for the company in the Karoo region.

Situated midway between the coastal cities of East London and Durban, Port St Johns, the capital of the Wild Coast, is a bustling town situated at the mouth of the magnificent Umzimvubu River where it flows into the ocean. Stretching for 230km the Wild Coast, together with the adjacent interior is arguably the most pristine and the unexplored coastline in South Africa, with endless beaches interspersed by river estuaries and forests. Port St Johns is considered a very sought after location for film shoots, with the likes of Barbara Hershey, Roger Moore and Leonardo diCaprio just some of the international stars to visit these shores over the years.

Comments Rubidge: "The potential for tourism and for leisure investment in this spectacular coastal wilderness area is considerable. Located in one of the most picturesque settings you could find anywhere in the world, Port St Johns is unlike the rest of the Wild Coast in that full title residential properties are available for purchase, and these represent some of the most appealing properties currently on the market.

"As historically there have been a number of questionable properties offered and illegal developments such as cottages which sprung up on the Wild Coast during the 1990's, we recommend that clients contact our local office for advice when investing in property here. Our office is situated at the Waterfront Main Road in Port St Johns where co-principal and local resident Peter Woodford and well-known agents Maureen Kruger and Nopasika Mdube – both previously of Port St Johns Properties – now offer the best and most exciting coastal and other properties in the area and surrounds."

Rubidge says available properties include beach plots, a farmhouse, river stands and commercial sites. This choice selection of properties located in Port St Johns incorporates one of only 14 prime First Beach seafronts even with river frontage and magnificent views of the bay and ocean. This vacant erf of 1990sqm is priced at R1.4 million and allows for limited development.

A three-bedroom, wood and iron original farmhouse set on a 2200sqm site in a scenic location on the Umzimvubu River is currently marketed at R985 000, while three river-facing plots – an ideal investment opportunity - are also available at R475 000 each. A prime property currently available is a magnificent wooden lodge set on over 2.3 ha overlooking the Umzimvubu River, which includes 11 individually designed rooms plus the original three-bedroom farmhouse and standalone double-storey building with restaurant, bar, outside covered dining veranda and downstairs deck – all with spectacular views. Priced at R6.5 million, the lodge is popular with film crews and visiting tourists, offering first class accommodation and cuisine.

Due to the high demand and limited availability of property in the area PGP will soon be launching the Wild Coast Explorer Club, a vacation, tourism and strategic development company dedicated to creating and preserving exceptional vacation and tourism destinations.

This will be one of the world's first private adventure residence clubs bringing members luxury accommodations in exquisite locations on the Wild Coast – exclusively marketed by PGP. These locations have been carefully selected and include 2 Resorts - a boutique hotel overlooking one of the finest surfing breaks, the Surf Camp in Coffee Bay, a lodge in Port St Johns, among others.

The Explorer Club will be the only leisure investment opportunity available on the Wild Coast outside Port St Johns and will provide members with an unforgettable experience.
