Penthouse deluxe on the market in Durban

19 Jun 2015

A magnificent penthouse that features not only unsurpassed panoramic views of Durban and the Indian Ocean, but also an award-winning Jan Blok-designed rooftop garden complete with putting green, outdoor shower and jacuzzi is currently on the market in Durban.

Upon entering this penthouse for sale in Berea, Durban, Hoaten says you follow a curved wall adorned with artwork into the heart of the home, with floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the view.

This is according to Glynis Hoaten, co-owner of Seeff Berea, who says this penthouse has the best entertainment area in Durban, and Blok Designs received a Gold Award for Excellence from the South African Landscapers Institute for this garden.

“It is accessed by a magnificent glass staircase from the private entrance area, which leads you to this one-of-a-kind garden which features a sheltered putting green, water features, outside shower, jacuzzi, and comfortable seating areas with glass balustrades for those magnificent, uninterrupted views.”

The fully-fitted modern kitchen has a curved open-plan counter that opens up to the lounge and dining room. Miele appliances include under-counter oven and electric hob with extractor fan. There is an additional gas plate and an eye-level microwave/steamer/convection oven and two fridges.

The seating area in the kitchen offers floor-to-ceiling views over the Berea and Durban harbour, she says.

The family room and TV lounge, with a separate home office, leads from the kitchen area along a skywalk-like passage, where mirrored pillars reflect every inch of the view.

The open-plan lounge and dining room feature custom-made furniture to allow full utilisation of the panoramic outlook, while the enclosed veranda offers additional space that can be closed off from the lounge area by glass sliding doors, she says.

Hoaten says this penthouse offers three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The main bedroom has large picture windows running from wall to wall, with an extensive dressing room and large built-in cupboards. The main en suite features a jacuzzi bath and a shower.

The second bedroom has extensive built-in wardrobes with a built-in dressing table and matching headboard. The en suite bathroom has a shower and is luxuriously finished. The third bedroom has similar built-in features, and its bathroom, not en suite, has a shower.

As a final touch of convenience, the apartment is accessed via a drive-up ramp and you drive straight into your apartment, where parking for four cars is included, says Hoaten.

“The fixtures and fittings used throughout are of the best quality and the attention to detail in the finishes is outstanding,” says Hoaten.

“There is an integrated music system with built-in speakers in the ceilings, and ducted air-conditioning throughout the penthouse.”

There is also a separate laundry room with built-in cupboards and outside staff quarters.

The building has 24-hour security with access control, a manned guardhouse and perimeter fencing.

Hoaten says the price of the penthouse will be given on application, and includes the custom-designed furniture.
