NC game reserve on auction 14/7

12 Jul 2010
An entire private game reserve in the Northern Cape, including a luxury lodge and all the game on the farm, will be going under the hammer on Wednesday 14 July at a no reserve auction sale.

Auction Alliance has been tasked to take to auction the Thuru Lodge Private Game Reserve, which consists of over 10,000 hectares of reserve, a game complement of 2 000, the luxurious five-star Thuru Game Lodge and Spa, a landing strip and even a registered abattoir.

Comments Ish Hendricks of Auction Alliance: "The property has been drawing tourists from across the globe as it offers a malaria-free habitat for a wide variety of fauna and flora, and it has been of particular interest to hunters."

This exclusive five-star lodge boasts 8 air-conditioned double rooms, with en suite bathrooms, satellite TV and Internet connection, a telephone, mini bars and under-floor heating. There is also a 6-sleeper dormitory-style room that is ideal for hunting parties.

Situated in the Nama Karoo Biome, this 10 000-hectare reserve is a mere hour’s drive from the Upington Airport and 10 minutes drive from Groblershoop in the Northern Cape. The reserve covers three diverse flora types, which are broadly classified into Nama Karoo, Kalahari and Karoo mountain vegetation.

It also has 2,000 species of game, which includes buffalo, springbok, eland, giraffe, rhinoceros, impala and the rare Sable antelope.

Catering to the needs of visiting game-hunters, the lodge has been equipped with a walk-in weapons safe, a fully approved and registered abattoir with cold room, as well as a trophy handling room with tub, drying area and store room for hides and horns according to specifications for the export of trophies.

Thuru Lodge was launched with the idea of offering a niche experience for the hunting family.

Guests can relax in the Thuru Serenity Spa or take part in horseback riding, quad-biking and hiking trails, game drives, night drives, rifle training, fish eagle viewings, fishing trips, bird watching, dune dinners, photo safaris and clay pigeon shooting.

The lodge also boasts a private landing strip to ensure ease of access. The gravel runway is 1,000 metres long, 30 metres wide and is in very good condition.

Included in the auction will be all buildings, all machinery, vehicles, farm implements, all game and all furniture and fixtures.

The entire reserve will be presented on auction at the Auction Alliance Multiple Commercial Auction, which will take place at 12:00 on 14 July 2010 at the Southern Sun Hotel in Grayston Drive in Sandton, Johannesburg.
