The National Association of Managing Agents (NAMA) held its bi-annual training session for Trustees and owners of sectional title properties last Saturday and over 250 people attended.
Not only trustees and owners participated but it was noticeable that many professional people including attorneys came to hear speakers talking on a variety of sectional title related topics.
Speakers included Andre Venter of McIntyre & v d Post who spoke on collecting outstanding levies. He discussed new legislation that required special letters to be send to outstanding owners before summons could be issued. This and other problems are causing lengthy delays before debts can be collected. Venter emphasised that it was necessary to take immediate action against defaulting owners even though they only owned one or two month's levies. He said that a strict credit control policy avoided escalating debt problems for bodies corporate.
The importance of energy saving was discussed by Chisto Mallinson of Hudu Solar. Christo offered solutions to reducing the cost of energy for bodies corporate. Christo generously donated a solar geyser worth R9, 000 which can be won by purchasing a R10 ticket (from mikehome@telkomsa.net). The draw will take place on 15th June 2009.
Christo offered a free energy saving check for any sectional title building which is sure to reduce their energy costs for the complex and individuals.
The trustees and owners training was well received by attendees and NAMA are expected to organise another function in September. NAMA which is dedicated to improving the quality of body corporate management has a membership that manages over 65% of all sectional title units in the country.
