Mount Edgecombe Village ranked in SA’s top 5 retirement estates

10 Oct 2017

Recent New World Wealth and AfrAsia Bank research named Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village in KwaZulu-Natal as one of the top 5 retirement estates in South Africa

This was based on the homes and facilities featured and places Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village as the number one retirement offering in KwaZulu-Natal.

Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village gained its accolade for its design and space, top medical services, immaculate garden areas and lush landscape, prime location, security features, as well as their activities and facilities offered in the broader estate.

“While Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village ticks all the boxes, we believe there are 5 top reasons that separate this product offering from others and explicitly shows why it’s leading in KwaZulu-Natal,” says David Cameron, Developer Representative of Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village.

The team behind Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village have a lot to do with its success. “It goes without saying that we are backed by leading experts, from South Africa’s leading specialist bank, Investec, to top medical partners TotalCare. More importantly, Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village has one of the largest private residential developers within South Africa, Collins Residential, behind this entire creation,” says Cameron.

Cameron emphasises it’s critical that Collins Residential delivers on what they promise to their clients. “This is the very foundation of their success to date. Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village is a prime example of the incomparable work Collins Residential creates, and shows how they affiliate with the right brands to create an incredible product, in a market where there is an exceptionally high demand.”

In the process of building the biggest Care Centre in KwaZulu-Natal to date, the estate is setting a new precedent in health and wellness in retirement. Her says this facility alone is one of the standout features, especially as it is set to be just under 6 000m² in size and provide 112 beds, as well as have up to 100 employees.

TotalCare is a trusted senior care service provider, with years of experience and a successful track record in South African estates, says Cameron. “This will be TotalCare’s first introduction into KwaZulu-Natal, and we are thrilled to have played a part in bringing their expertise to this region.”

The addition of this care centre is a cost to the developer and access to convenient and comprehensive healthcare, as well as home-based care, is a leading reason so many invest in retirement estates. This is why Collins Residential have made sure that this game-changing health offering is being built within the first phase of construction, says Cameron.

Besides the healthcare offering, there are a range of other facilities on offer to residents. “Due to Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village being situated in the esteemed family-focused Kindlewood Estate, residents benefit from having both their own exclusive facilities within the retirement village and those within the larger estate,” he says. “This means that they have a choice of clubhouses to enjoy, vast green open space and wetland areas to walk or jog, cricket nets, tennis courts and swimming pools and much more.”

As a result of the prime location the retirement village is set within, there is the benefit of multi-generational living - giving residents an opportunity to live close to their families, as well as having regular contact with other people.

“It is common for people to dislike change, especially when they have been settled in a home for many years and have become familiar with their surroundings. Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village offers the opportunity for families to keep that continuity, with the same friends, family and people, whilst being able to take optimal care of themselves,” says Cameron.

The design of Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village is to ensure all its residents have accessibility to the best, and this doesn’t exclude the quality of home design.

“Collins Residential have put in a great deal of research to ensure that retirees are provided with what they need, this includes single-level, stepless living, the clever use of living space and the ability to retro-fit the homes to their needs when the time arises,” says Cameron.
