More in store at Lephalale Mall

31 Mar 2015

Since the opening of its first phase in November 2012, Lephalale Mall has fulfilled a need in the Lephalale community not only for a modern shopping centre but for a place where people can gather, relax and spend time with their families.

Construction on Phase 2 commenced in January 2014 and now adds over 20 000sqm of GLA to the mall, and over 700 additional parking bays.

The mall has been well received by the local community, which reflects in its trading figures and the demand from retailers to take up space, according to the developers, Moolman Group and Uniqon. Building on this, they have embarked on an expansion and redevelopment project that sees the mall being transformed from 15 800sqm to a regional shopping centre, which opened with the offering of bigger and better brands on 26 March 2015.

Construction on Phase 2 commenced in January 2014 and now adds over 20 000sqm of GLA to the mall, and over 700 additional parking bays. This will increase the number of shops from 30 to 80 and the two current anchor tenants, Game and Checkers, will be complemented by Pick n Pay, Edgars, Woolworths Food and Textile in the new phase. Cape Union Mart, Trappers, @Home, Ideal, Panarotti’s and Nando’s will all open their first stores in Lephalale in the mall. Other strong national retailers include Legit, Foschini, Total Sport, Exact, Markham, Fashion Express and John Craig. The existing Jet and Identity stores will relocate and expand.

In addition to a comprehensive line-up of shops, offering customers a wide range of popular brands and everything they expect from fashion, footwear and household to electronics and banking, Lephalale Mall will be the "place to be seen" with its renewed focus on entertainment. Because of the important role that a centre such as this plays as a social anchor in the community, aspects such as the food court and children’s play area have been given special attention, say the developers.

The attractive new food court is under construction at the Checkers entrance, where restaurants are arranged around a central external courtyard planted with trees. This carries through the theme of the tree which is used in the mall’s logo, and makes reference to the beautiful surrounding bushveld trees. The food court, with its secluded feel and its water feature accent, will create an oasis-like space which will offer shoppers some respite and encourage them to sit down and relax in the heat of the day.

The mall is situated on the corner of Nelson Mandela and Chris Hani Avenues in Onverwacht, Lephalale (formerly Ellisras). Its trading hours are: Mondays to Fridays - 09:00 to 18:00; Saturdays - 09:00 to 17:00; and Sundays and Public Holidays - 09:00 to 15:00.
