Mall of the North's new retailers

Leading names in local and international retail will add even more shopping variety to the super-regional Mall of the North in Polokwane, Limpopo.

Mall of the North won the South African Property Owners Association Innovative Excellence Award in Retail Property Development. It also won the prestigious Spectrum Retail Design Development Award from the South African Council of Shopping Centres.

International fashion brand shops from Diesel, Levi’s, Skechers, Fabiani and Cotton On will soon open at Mall of the North.

The original, natural and ethical beauty brand The Body Shop will also introduce a new store and Telkom is adding a flagship 8ta shop.

Introducing more choice to its menu, Mall of the North will add a flagship Panarottis, Cups & Cones Frozen Yoghurt and Ice Cream.

The 75 000 square metres Mall of the North opened in April 2011 and is jointly owned by Johannesburg Stock Exchange listed company, Resilient Property Income Fund, Flanagan & Gerard Property Development & Investment, and Moolman Group.

Johann Kriekof Resilient Property Income Fund says the Mall of the North is producing healthy and growing trade.

It recorded exceptional performance during its first year and continues to receive attention from retailers seeking to open stores at the mall.

Driving its performance is its exceptional retail mix of 180 shops with anchor retailers including Pick n Pay, Checkers, Edgars, Woolworths and Game, as well as a Ster-Kinekor cinema complex.

Hans Bitter of The Foschini Group (TFG) explains that Fabiani – the latest brand to join TFG – makes its entry into the Mall of the North on the upper level, near Entrance 4. 

“Fabiani is found at upmarket malls such as Canal Walk, Sandton City and Gateway,” notes Bitter.

Bitter says the confidence Fabiani has displayed in committing to Mall of the North is indicative of how TFG is trading out of its other brands present in the centre.

Paul Gerard of Flanagan & Gerard Property Development & Investment explains that to ensure Mall of the North continues to meet shopper needs, its tenant mix is constantly monitored against shopper trends.

“This allows us to innovate and improve, to give our customers a complete experience.”

Meanwhile in Johannesburg, cosmetics speciality retailer Red Square is opening at Morningside Shopping Centre on 1 August bringing top classic and up-and-coming branded cosmetics to Sandton’s fashion-forward shoppers.

While the new retailers will bring the centre in line with the latest shopper demands, Gerard notes the owners are considering several extra changes to take the centre into the future.

Red Square joins the 82 shops at Morningside Shopping Centre, selected for their unique offering, quality products and personal service.

Other new shops which have recently opened at the centre include Grass Roots Health Shop, Lucky Moo and S.W.E.A.T 1000.
