Tanya Jovanovski, franchisee of Rawson Auctions Western Cape, says Paarl provides many great attractions. “The town is known for its rich and fertile vineyards, crisp air and magnificent mountain views – not unlike Paardeberg Mountain Estate. The famous main street in Paarl houses beautifully-designed buildings, such as the architectural beauty Strooidak Church. There are lovely cafes and fine dining restaurants strewn throughout the homely suburb as well.”

The informal residential Erf, Portion 46 of Farm 1226 Staart Van De Paardeberg, is an impressive 704sqm and plays home to spectacular views of the surrounding vineyards and rocky trails winding through the fynbos.

The house, which covers just under half of the erf at 340sqm, comprises four bedrooms, all with built-in cupboards and a button to open the security gate in the passage. It has two bathrooms withone en suite, a lounge, dining room, andopen-plan kitchen with a scullery, built-in cupboards, gas stove and a supawood finish. There is an indoor braai and large stoep with additional braai area for the keen entertainer.

The interior of the home has a distinct “African lodge” feel to it. Large, wall-length windows and sliding doors in the lounge and dining areas bring in plenty of natural light, while visually breaking down the barrier between the outside scenery and the comfort of the home.

Upstairs is a study with a storeroom. The house has an extra room with a separate entrance, which can be used as a flatlet.

She says the house makes great use of wood in decoration, from trimmings to ceiling designs. “The style remains modern and sharp, but with less of an urban feel to it that we usually associate with such ’out-of-this-world’” luxury.”

There is a well-established fynbos garden with regular irrigation points, two garages, a dam for swimming and soaking away hot South African summers, and great hiking trails that lead up the mountainside.
