Luxurious homes in top Somerset West golf estate

Erinvale Golf Estate in Somerset West boasts a championship golf course and is very popular with celebrities and top golfers from across the world, and has hosted a World Cup Golf Tournament as well as two South African Open Golf Championships.

Lightstone data shows that 2017 was a fairly good year for the estate, with around 24 sales, on par with 2015, and only marginally below 2016. Most of the sales were in the R7 million to R18 million price range, while the sectional title units sold mostly in the R3 million to R6 million range.

Most notably, say the agents, the average selling price has increased by 72% over the last five years, from R4.6 million in 2012 to R7.9 million last year as upper-income buyers are increasingly investing in the estate.

Erinvale offers large plots and the homes are all individually designed. For a luxury golf estate, it also still offers excellent value with houses below the clubhouse priced at around R6 million on average, and above the clubhouse upwards of around R8 million. The highest price achieved in the estate was R29 million, two years ago.

“Once people move in here, they do not often sell, and more than half of all properties have been in the same hands for 8 to 10 years and longer. It is predominantly second homes and retirees, but this is shifting. There are also many foreign swallows, especially Germans, who own homes here as it offers a fabulous country lifestyle in a very secure environment,” say the agents.

The elevated position of the estate means that it enjoys spectacular views of the Helderberg Mountains and over the Strand/False Bay coastline. Somerset West is only 40-minute drive from Cape Town, and in the heart of the winelands, which make it an ideal base for anyone who works or has business interest in the winelands or Cape Town itself. It is also close to the airport.
