02 Apr 2013

A small town in the Karoo, Laingsburg is approximately 280 km from Cape Town and a popular stop for anyone travelling on the busy N1 highway.

A game farm, measuring close to 6 000 hectares will be sold as a going concern, complete with all game in Laingsburg in the Karoo on 3 May.

A game farm surrounded by mountains and the best the Karoo has to offer will be auctioned by BKB Eiendomme on 3 May at 11am.

The farm, measuring close to 6 000 hectares will be sold as a going concern, complete with all game.

According to the auctioneers, the property consists of two portions and contains two dwellings a garage, hunter’s cottage, outbuildings and staff housing.

The land comprises succulent Karoo bossies, grass and thorn trees with good covering and the topography varies from flat land to mountains with a river running through the property.

There are boreholes, fountains and dams on the property with vehicles and equipment included in the sale

Besides game viewing, the farm offers an ideal getaway for the nature lover.

With spectacular displays of stars at night and beautiful hiking and mountain biking in the day, it is perfect for those looking for a quiet stay in the country.

Easy to reach on the N1 but difficult to leave, the property offers an ideal lifestyle and income producing property for the right buyer.

Albie Loubser of BKB Eiendomme says this is an outstanding opportunity for someone looking to buy a game farm with all game, vehicles and equipment.

The farm is ideal as a stopover for travellers and as a holiday getaway just three hours drive from Cape Town, says Loubser.

Meanwhile Rawson Properties will auction four properties on site at 30 Voortrekker Road in Calitzdorp in Klein Karoo on 6 April at 12pm.

Front view of erf 504. This 479 square metre property has an art gallery, a general goods shop and a tea garden on it, as well as, a two bedroom cottage with an office/lounge, a kitchen and a bathroom.

The properties to come under the hammer are all inter-linked, some are built on and some are not and they include erf 504 a 479 square metre property zoned for commercial use which currently has an art gallery, a general goods shop and a tea garden on it, as well as a two bedroom cottage with an office, lounge/dining area, a kitchen and a bathroom.

Tanya Jovanovski of Rawson Auctions in the Western Cape says the buyer could probably continue renting out the gallery and the cottage at its current rate of R4 000 per month.

Erf 505 zoned for commercial use and Erf 506 zoned for residential use together cover 863 square metres and are both vacant, according to the auctioneers.

They are almost identical in size, the one being 431 square metres and the other 432 square metres.

“Fronting onto Calitzdorp’s main street, they offer huge potential as both a residence and a business,” says Jovanovski.

The fourth one is erf 507 zoned for residential use and covers 382 square metres with a two bedroom cottage.

Jovanovski believes this would make an ideal backpackers’ hostel – or provide a quiet country lifestyle for someone in search of a genuine getaway or retirement home.

The reserve price for all of the above has been set at R1 150 000.

“Calitzdorp, like many towns on Route 62, has a charm and character found only in towns in these remote country districts – and yet it is also the centre of a progressive agricultural community.

“Buying here could be both financially and spiritually rewarding,” she says.
