Developed by Retail Africa (Pty) Ltd, Kalahari Mall will bring a new dimension to the retail offering in this Northern Cape Town. At some 35 000 square metres of GLA, the mall will offer over 70 stores ranging from well-known retail outlets to an impressive mix of speciality stores. National retailers will include Game, Clicks, Edgars, Spar, Woolworths, Checkers and more.

With an assortment of restaurants, an attractive piazza area, ample parking, and a convenient taxi rank, the new mall is sure to be a hit with residents and tourists alike.

The mall, which takes its name from the surrounding Kalahari Desert basin, is situated in a part of South Africa known for its hot, dry conditions.

With its state-of-the-art air conditioning system, the mall will not only offer a refreshing new shopping experience for locals – it will also provide a welcome respite from the Upington heat.

Kalahari Mall is located on the corner of Dr Nelson Mandela Drive and Van Riebeeck Street, Die Rand, Upington. This location is in a well established residential area close to several schools.

It is also accessible from other towns along the major arterial routes connected to Upington, such as Keetmanshoop, Kathu and Prieska.

With Upington being situated en route to many of South Africa’s most attractive tourist destinations, Kalahari Mall will prove attractive to international visitors too.

The design of the mall takes its inspiration from the surrounding desert environment as well as from the local heritage.

This is reflected in the earthy colours and textures chosen for the finishes and the inclusion of San art in some of the design elements.

This theme is carried through into the landscaping, which will make use of the Camelthorn trees and succulents that are endemic to the area.

Importantly, the development will provide employment opportunities for local contractors and subcontractors, as well as a number of permanent jobs for shop assistants and maintenance staff once the centre is complete.
