Johannesburg weekend Heritage Tours

In honour of Heritage month, the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation is organising Heritage Tours, which will showcase the older parts of the city and celebrate an exciting and turbulent history. 

On 7 and 8 September 2013, visitors will get the opportunity to explore the mansions on the ridges and walk through the City Centre, enjoying the grandeur as well as the mining heritage on display.

Those keen on participating on Saturday, can look forward to a three-hour walking tour from Emoyeni to The View

The tour will start at Emoyeni with an inside tour and spectacular view of the Magaliesberg and will move across York Road to get a glimpse of The Causeway and Hazeldene Hall. The tour will end with an inside tour of The View, which served as Sir Thomas Cullinan’s home. 

Visitors could also opt to take a bus tour through The Parks, a suburb known for its watercourses and trees. They can also enjoy a walk through the inner city, or down Hospital Hill, starting at the old Fever Hospital moving downhill past the Nurses’ Home to the Children’s Memorial Institute. 

On Sunday visitors can look forward to a walking tour starting at the Villa Arcadia, the home of Sir Lionel and Lady Phillips. 

Take a stroll along Pallinghurst Road and experience beautiful homes and splendid gardens. 

There are at least 15 tours to choose from, each at a cost of R50 per person.
