14 Feb 2011

A poultry farm with a magnificent residence will be one of the properties on auction at a multi property auction on 17 February at the Hilton Hotel in Sandton.

Sun Raise poultry farm, which has been operational for 11 years, is sited on 37.0765 hectares in Alewynspoort, Eikenhofnext to the Eye Of Africa (an upmarket golf estate development with a signature Greg Norman designed golf course). It is close to major transport networks and highways, with OR Tambo International airport about 50 kilometres away.

“This viable business boasts extremely high standards of hygiene and productivity, which together with a transport network, makes it very productive,” says Aucor’s Marco Gaspar.

“Potential income scenarios have been completed with monthlyturnover ranging from R3,3 million to R9,5 million.  All in, it’s worth around R25 million and anyone who bids successfully on this lot will be ensured of a solid business and a stunning home.”

Purely from a business perspective, Sun Raise consists of seventeen 50m x 10m facebrick chicken batteries with 10 000 birds per battery.  The battery environment is strictly controlled and feeders and drinkers are fully automated.  Each is fenced off and very high hygiene standards are adhered to.  Approximately 6 000 to 8 000 chickens are slaughtered daily in its abattoir.

While the farm is on mainlines for electricity and water, emergency farm generators are maintained in case of power failure.  There are sufficient workshops and storage sheds for maintenance and a farm shop where chickens and other consumables are sold to the public.

The holding freezer (fresh cold room) can carry up to 25 000 kilograms, the holding freezer (frozen holding) can accommodate 30 000 kilograms and the blast freezer handles 15 000 kilograms per 12 hour shift.

The main residence, 1100sqm under roof, offers exceptional facilities meeting the most discerning tastes.  It comprises three lounges, three en suite bedrooms, a large modern kitchen and pantry, a breakfast room, dining room, study, utility room, full bar with Union Billiards table, a wine cellar, gymnasium, jacuzzi and steam room, a large patio, aviary and koi pond, pool and potting shed, four large garages with automated doors and portico and beautiful indigenous gardens.  Further to this is a separate suite consisting of a lounge and TV area, spacious bedroom en suite and dressing room.

There is also a farm manager’s residence, consisting of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, lounge and dining room, staff quarters, a flatlet and garages.  The estate has security fencing and night guards monitor the dwellings.

The auction takes place at 12:00 on Thursday 17 February at the Hilton Hotel, 138 Rivonia Road, Sandton.
