Hotelier buys Velddrif home

14 Aug 2007
A Velddrif home on the Port Owen marina canal in the Western Cape has been sold to well-known Namaqualand hotelier Mark Sutton of Suttridge Guest Farm outside Vanrhynsdorp.

The property, located in Port Owen Drive, is larger than most and divided internally in such a way that it could be "quite easily" converted into three apartments. However, it has a private floating jetty and enjoys extensive river views.

Sutton says that "at the moment we will be using it purely as a holiday home because we remain dedicated to expanding Suttridge Guest Farm for the foreseeable future".

David Mickleburgh of Seeff Properties' Velddrif office described the Velddrif residential property market for R1 million plus homes as "firm" for "well constructed homes, particularly those on the water or with river or sea views".

However, he said there were "plenty of optimists" demanding R1m or more for homes that "did not meet these criteria". There was a shortage of houses priced under R1m.
