“However, I believe this figure can further increase as Akasia, and the north of Pretoria in general, is an up-and-coming area and will soon be a major financial player in Tshwane,” says Magnus Engelbrecht, Just Property principal for Pretoria North.

According to Engelbrecht, a planned R50 billion will be spent to develop the Rosslyn area into Tshwane Auto City over the next 10 years, and it hopes to emulate places such as Detroit in the US, which houses America’s big three carmakers, or Toyota City in Japan. Rosslyn is currently home to BMW Plant SA, Nissan Plant SA, Tata Motors SA, and Iveco SA, to name a few.

This four bedroom, two bathroom home in The Orchards in Akasia has a comfortable entertainment area with a built-in braai and big glass doors leading to the garden. It is on the market for R1.85 million - click here to view.

An additional planned R12 billion will be spent on Rainbow Junction, an all-new nodal development which is set to include some 670 000sqm of commercial development - making it one of the largest integrated mixed-use developments in the country.

Akasia has the largest mall in the north of Pretoria, Wonderpark Shopping Centre. With more than 180 stores, this trendsetting shopping centre offers single-level shopping and seven entrances with wide walkways and world-class aesthetics. With the focus on convenience, the centre offers free-flow traffic with drop-off zones for cars and buses as, well as a fully-integrated taxi rank.

This 76sqm townhouse in Hesteapark, Akasia, is in a complex with pool and offers two bedrooms and one bathroom. It is on the market for R550 000 - click here to view.

Also situated in this area is the Netcare Akasia Hospital that serves the private healthcare needs of the community, and has grown to a 162-bed facility incorporating a new state-of-the-art ICU and surgical ward.

A variety of excellent schools are available in this area, as well as the acclaimed Akasia Golf Club, with easy access to the N1, N4 and R80.

In addition, Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (MEDUNSA) and Onderstepoort - the Veterinary Institute and the University of Pretoria Faculty of Veterinary Science - is on Akasia’s doorstep, attracting students and medical professionals countrywide.

This two bedroom, one bathroom apartment in The Orchards, Akasia, has an open-plan kitchen and living area. It is on the market for R490 000 - click here to view.

“Taking all of the above into consideration, we recommend Pretoria North as a good investment opportunity,” says Engelbrecht.

Akasia in northern Pretoria is one of the few suburbs in South Africa that offers such a wide variety of properties in one area - from bachelor flats for R285 000 to four bedroom houses in an estate for R1.85 million.

“Currently we are involved with the marketing of 193 units in a lifestyle estate in Clarina. These modern units range between R530 000 and R580 000, transfer costs included. This estate has been well maintained, has 24-hour security, swimming pools, play areas, garden services and a homework club,” says Engelbrecht.
