Cresta Shopping Centre has been left in the dark as City Power employees downed tools early this week.
The regional mall measuring 94 000 square metres is owned by Pareto Limited and managed by Broll.
In a media statement, Broll writes: “We refer to various news reports and advise accordingly, that City Power’s employees have gone on strike and areas such as Cresta and surrounding suburbs have been affected by power outages.”
Furthermore, the mall managers say City Power management have been on the radio confirming the strike action and they have given an undertaking to try and resolve the dispute with their staff as speedily as possible.
At this stage it is unclear when the matter will be resolved.
However, management has made arrangements to have emergency back-up power to keep the common areas in the centre well lit under the circumstances.
According to centre management, most anchor tenants and a few independents continue to trade under these circumstances and security is fully on site as per normal to ensure the continued safety and security in the centre.
“As a regional shopping centre the impact of such strike action on our business and tenants is obviously immense and we hope that the matter is resolved as effectively and as promptly as possible.”
