Heading up the operation are principals Musa Malinga and Msizi Malinga and manager Henri de Rauville, whose team includes sales agent Gleryl de Rauville and tax specialist Hillary Hart.
The de Rauvilles entered the real estate industry in 2003 after spending a number of years in the farming industry. The pair quickly diversified and Henri became the principal of another property interest until this year when he and Gleryl were approached by Msizi Malinga and his brother Musa who is providing the financial backing for the new branch and is a chartered accountant to boot.
Msizi previously worked as a consultant with SETA, specifically in the National Qualifications Framework and is keen to apply the skills he learnt there to the property industry.
After working for SARS for 16 years, Hillary Hart decided to join the real estate industry in 2006 and signed up with another property group. The owner of her branch subsequently immigrated, though, and she has now joined the Chas Everitt Pietermaritzburg team.
Malinga and De Rauville say their decision to adopt the Chas Everitt brand was based, firstly, on the fact that clients associate the brand with quality. In addition, the company's training programme, support and networking capabilities are invaluable.
Says De Rauville: "Every Chas Everitt member is required to undergo category specific training, without which they are not allowed to operate. We have chosen to market the full property gambit, thus everyone has undergone extensive training."
And the new branch has already secured a number of exclusive mandates including a particularly fine estate situated next to Michaelhouse school named Woodridge Estate. Stands here are selling for between R1m and R2,2m and only 20 units have been made available, of which 15 remain. The estate will also incorporate a six-star conference centre, health hydro and the Forest Hotel.
Meanwhile, the Chas Everitt sales team is upbeat about local property market prospects. They say freehold properties within Pietermaritzburg boundaries are selling for R700 000 on average and that activity is definitely up, particularly in the township areas of Edendale and Imbali where upgrading is occurring daily.
