The Kennel Club Championship Shows are all breed shows and a wide range of dogs will participate in a number of different categories including Gundogs, Herding dogs, Hound Dogs, Terriers, Toy dogs, Utility and Working dogs.

In each breed dogs are judged as dogs separate from bitches, as minor puppy 6 to 9 months old,  puppy 9 to 12 months, junior 12 to 18 months, graduate 18 to 24 months, SA bred, veteran (over 7 years old) and open (to dogs registered in SA and overseas) as well as champion dogs that have won champion status being judged best dog or bitch and winning the points (Championship Certificate).

Two new categories have been added this year - baby puppy (4 to 6 month old) and neutered dog.

The Free State Bulldog Club has just been reformed after a number of years in limbo and they are having their qualifying show – to show that they can hold a Championship show. About 30 dogs are expected including 12 entries from probably the largest and best known Bulldog breeder.

Their dogs win Best Bulldog on show very frequently and often go further to win Best in Group (Utility) and even Best in Show.

The SPCA will be invited to attend the show and bring along dogs that they would like to find new homes for.

In addition, the weekend show is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking for a dog to see the different breeds and talk to the best breeders.

Entry is free, contact Mike Spencer, chairman of the Free State Bulldog Club on 082 881 4711.
