Auction of mansion and collectables 5/6

02 Jun 2010

An unusual mansion and eclectic range of collectables will go under the gavel in Welkom this Saturday 5 June at 10h30.

One of the most diverse ranges of memorabilia, antiques, collectables, art and fine reproductions will fall under the auction hammer when Aucor sells a Welkom property and its contents.

“Kallie Steyn, well-known in Welkom, is literally sailing off into the sunset,” says Aucor director Paul Winterstein. He adds that Steyn is disposing of his assets in South Africa to move to the Phillipines to grow palms for palm oil production, a far cry from his mining industry experience in South Africa.

The 2163sqm property comprises a palatial home with exceptional features such as Roman and Gothic crested walls, watch towers and an imposing entrance way. The garden has plush lawns and a gazebo, with a mausoleum as well as a beautiful needle obelisk, Indian swing and bird aviary. The huge family home comprises a master suite plus three additional bedrooms, lounge, dining room, gym and music parlour, as well as an iron-clad elevator, several storerooms, and numerous garages and carports. There is a large swimming pool, water storage tank as well as a 20 kVA generator.

Buyers searching for something different can pick up a selection of musical instruments, a grand piano, leather and wood furniture, models of boats/ships, and diving equipment. For those looking for something out of the ordinary, there is a large range of Egyptian and medieval busts, suits of armour, shields, head gear, sword and knife collections. Also on offer are several paintings and other art, a classic Harley Davidson with side car and Rolex watches.

“The collection of items is extensive. The objects were accumulated over decades and it’s not often that one sees a collection of this scale,” says Winterstein.

The auction will take place on Saturday 05 June at 10:30 at 52 Parkway Avenue, Riebeeckstad, Welkom, with viewing taking place the day before.
