So Valentine’s Day had to be skipped because there was that important project to complete at work, or maybe like me, your partner lives miles away and you couldn’t be together on 14 February.
Because love can be celebrated anytime and anywhere, it’s not too late to show your partner some appreciation without breaking the bank.
Here are easy ways to be romantic at home in this season of love:
1. Romantic home-cooked dinner
Surprise your other half with a romantic dinner in the comfort of your own home...
With proper planning and the right recipes, a dinner for two at home could be a perfect excuse to spend some quality time together in a quiet and cosy setting.
Apart from preparing that mouth-watering meal, make sure you also have an elegant table setting to set the right mood; give that outdated table cloth a break and go for something simple, yet chic and modern.

2. Turn your bedroom into a love nest
The bedroom is the best place in the house for some real undisturbed romance. Send the kids to visit a friend or the grandparents for the day, and let this night be just about you and your partner.
- Choose the right music, with a collection of some of your partner’s favourite jams,
- Ensure the air is soothing and relaxing by adding scented candles.
- Spice up the décor and add that romantic touch by placing some unique red and white accessories here and there.
- Nothing completes a romantic evening like the correct lighting. The less light there is, the better, so opt for dimmer lights that will get you both in the right mood.
3. Romantic camp in your yard
Outdoor areas have always been one of my favourite places to bond with my partner, whether it’s in the park, a fancy outdoor restaurant or just taking a walk in the neighbourhood. Being out of the house always manages to ignite the spark in our relationship.
So, if you have a well maintained garden which is a reasonable size and maybe has a few beautiful flowers, transform this area and go camping in your own garden.
What could be more romantic than eating alfresco outdoors on a warm summer evening?
Keep things simple with something soft and luxurious to lie on, a few candle lights, a picnic basket filled with delicious food - decadent goodies you do not usually buy. And finally, turn on some music.
4. Home spa treatment
With our busy schedules nowadays, making time to visit a spa may not be possible for most of us. So give your loved one some face and body pampering at home.
After a long day at work, treat your partner to a full body treatment; from massage oils to fresh towels and bath salts. Go all out and get everything that will show your appreciation and let your partner unwind, without spending a fortune in a luxurious health spa.
5. Movie night
As much as I enjoy spending some time at the mall with my partner, and ending off the day with a nice movie, nothing compares to the tender moment of giggling and cuddling in our lounge, while watching ‘Why did I get married too?’.
Schedule a movie night in your home and avoid the traffic and long queues at the cinema.
Make a list of the most recent romantic movies and rent a few, this way your partner can get involved in making the day more special by picking what to watch.
To complete your home cinema, dim the lights, buy a bottle of the finest wine, get the popcorn ready, switch off your phones and make sure you’ve got home all to yourselves.
