400 units launched in downtown Jhb

27 Mar 2009
The wraps are off over 400 new rental apartments in downtown Johannesburg in the old Greatermans building.

The project, which will soon be available to tenants, cost over R80m and has been developed in partnership with International Housing Solutions South Africa (IHS).

IHS launched its R1,7bn South Africa Workforce Housing Fund late last year and the Greatermans deal is the first of a string of projects recently funded that is set to come on stream later this year.

Elize Stroebel, country director of International Housing Solutions South Africa, says the development has 419 units and a show flat was completed at the end of February.

She says the development has DSTV aerials, VOIP telephones and wireless internet.

She says residents can rent studio apartments for R1,800, with rentals for a two-bedroomed unit at R3,300.
