4 up-and-coming estates in South Africa

25 May 2015

In a previous feature, we looked at the top 10 residential estates in SA. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the up-and-coming estates in South Africa that may make the top 10 list in the future.

1. Val de Vie

This French Provencal inspired 3 bedroom house for sale in Val De Vie Estate, Paarl, is in a quiet cul-de-sac overlooking the Val de Vie Reserve. It is selling for R4.795 million - click here to view.

Val de Vie is the only Equestrian estate in the Western Cape and one of only seven in the country. It is also home to a working wine farm. Houses on the estate range from R3 million to R15 million.

Val-die-vie Polo Village is a new part of the estate currently under development, units are being designed by well-known architect Stefan Antoni.

2. Whale Rock

Situated above Solar Beach in Plettenberg Bay, this 100 hectare estate offers residents 180 degree views of Plettenberg Bay and Keurbooms. Whale Rock is split into several sections including Whale Rock Heights, Whale Rock Ridge and Whale Rock Beach.

This 5 bedroom ultra-modern home in Whale Rock estate, Plettenberg Bay, has glorious ocean views and spacious, flowing interiors. It is on the market for R15.4 million - click here to view.

Houses on the estate range from R3 million to R30 million.

3. Simola

Simola is located in the hills above Knysna. The 325 hectare estate contains four residential areas, namely: ridgeline, river, valley and forest. It is home to a top-rated golf course, spa and wellness centre.

House prices on the estate range from R5 million to R30 million.

4. Steyn City

This estate in Fourways, Gauteng, includes 260 hectares of landscaped parkland incorporating pedestrian routes and bridle trails, two private schools, office developments, a golf course, convenience shopping, a retirement village and a private hospital.

This contemporary country home has generous open spaces with endless natural light and panoramic views of the Simola golf course, Knysna River and Outeniqua mountains. It is priced at R11 million - click here to view.

The parklands, offices, schools and the hospital are perhaps the most notable additions onto the traditional estate model that we are used to.

The parks, in particular are extremely interesting as it looks as if they may be going for an outer-London type look by emulating parklands such as Hampstead Heath, where local residents gather during weekends and after work to meet, talk and walk their dogs.

Getting the parkland right may well be the key to Steyn City’s success or failure as it could become a major drawcard from a social point of view, if done correctly.

Steyn City will include a combination of apartments and houses. House prices are expected to range from R3 million to R30 million whilst apartments will cost between R1 million and R8 million each.
