It is not just residential buyers, but retirement buyers too who are keen on the Pretoria East area.
This is according to Anton van der Merwe and Jimmy du Preez, agents with Seeff Pretoria East, who say there has definitely been an increase in the number of retirement developments in the area. For example, two huge developments are currently in different stages of development.
The agents say there is a strong demand for these for various reasons, and it is a known fact that the majority of South Africans over the age of 55 who buy or sell property are doing it for downscaling purposes. Security and on-site medical and other assisted living facilities and services in retirement complexes are of high quality and attract a significant number of these buyers.
According to the agents, elderly people who traditionally farmed or resided in or around country towns now seek to live in these facilities, as do those whose support system, mainly due to family emigrating, is much weaker than a number of years ago.
Van der Merwe and Du Preez say some of the popular options in the area include:
1. Ruimtesig is set against the Bronberg Mountain range in Faerie Glen. It is an established seasoned complex with beautiful views, well-developed gardens and an operational frail-care centre and dining hall.
2. Olive Crescent in Olympus offers a modern sectional title complex with a mix of townhouses and bottom and upper stack apartments. It also includes a frail-care centre, dining hall and recreation lounge/library.
3. Renaissance Faerie Glen is a 15-year-old flagship village with spacious single level, two and three bedroomed houses in wide open spaces and well-developed gardens. The village is ideal for the ‘younger’ senior citizens needing a lock-up and go property.
4. Featherwood Retirement Estate is located close to the Woodlands Mall and Pretoria East Hospital. It offers a broad range of options. First, there are houses and units for the active-aged group that can still fully support themselves while for the partially-constrained group there are assisted living facilities including meals and medical care. For the constrained group, there is 24-hour frail care.
This particular development offers a superb lifestyle with a broad range of facilities on hand including a clubhouse, mini-gym, laundry, cleaning, a professionally-managed frail care centre, assisted living services and more.
Prices range from R1.235 million for a two bedroom unit to R1.62 million for a unit with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The development also offers rentals.
“There are many benefits in choosing to retire in the city compared to the country, says du Preez.
“If you choose a lovely estate, you get to enjoy fabulous facilities and grounds while you have all the care you need right on hand. You can also remain close to friends and family, especially your grandchildren who may live in the city and surrounds.”
