New World Wealth (NWW) shares its top 10 lifestyle estate picks for 2021, with South Africa and the United States both securing three estates each in the list.
Andrew Amoils, Wealth Analyst for NWW states South Africa is a global pioneer in estate living and is home to many of the world's best lifestyle & golf estates. While estate living is also very popular in the USA, Spain and Portugal, Amoils confirmed that is taking off in the UAE, New Zealand and Mauritius - with estates in each of these countries making the list.
The top ten estates were selected based on their "appeal to HNWIs, maintenance, communal areas such as parks, design, location, scenery, security and facilities/activities available which includes gym, tennis, golf, equestrian and cycling for example".
NWW estimates that over 45% of SA HNWIs either live or have homes on estates.
Amoils outlines the latest lifestyle estate trends for 2021 saying, "Most new luxury developments and estates in SA focus on apartment living rather than houses. He adds that notable examples include Brookfield at Royal, Embassy Towers and Umhlanga Arch.

"A large number of lifestyle & golf estates have started to add luxury apartments onto their offerings. Previously, most estates had focused only on houses."
Amoils also notes that most developers are now creating small neighbourhoods within their lifestyle estates, as opposed to the old model where houses were spaced evenly around the entire property. The new model allows for more parkland and open spaces between the neighbourhoods.
"There is a movement away from traditional golf estates and towards wildlife and eco-estates (with nice parks and wilderness areas). Retirement estates for over 60s have also become more popular."
