10 Johannesburg neighbourhoods offering a good quality of life

01 Feb 2022

The property buyer mindsets have shifted as South Africans search for a better quality of life and wellness when choosing where to buy a home. Estates are fast becoming the go-to option for people looking for a relaxed, safe and beautiful place to live. Buyers also want to have a sense of community, and access to wellness-centric amenities such as tennis courts, squash courts, swimming pools, parks and clubhouse facilities.

Johannesburg certainly has an extensive amount of estates and boomed-off areas but then there are a few that stand out from the rest. Experts in these estates elaborate on the reasons for their popularity and the various value and price ranges on offer.

Midrand

Grahame Diedericks, Manager Principal of Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty in Midrand says the area has grown in leaps and bounds during the past decade with one of the key focus points in the area’s development being lifestyle and quality of life and, as a result, there are a number of excellent options to suit most lifestyles and budgets, especially in the estate sector.

Steyn City

Steyn City CEO Giuseppe Plumari notes that, from the outset, the development has distinguished itself by offering residents an investment not only in real estate, but in lifestyle.

“We’ve always tried to create a residence without compare – a little bit of extraordinary, every day. This is a place where you truly can live your best life,” he observes.

The Lagoon caters to the many residents who enjoy Steyn City’s orientation towards a lifestyle rooted in wellness and leisure, too: measuring an impressive 300 metres in length, swimming just six lengths is the equivalent of 1.6 kilometres, making it ideal for triathletes and serious swimmers.

Property prices on the estate range from R2 million to R40 million.

Randburg

Linden

Linden is one of Johannesburg’s prettiest and oldest suburbs and is well-situated to the northwest of the city centre. Despite the fact that you are within a stone’s throw reach of Sandton, Northcliff, Melville and various popular amenities, Linden has retained its original essence of real platteland charm, says Cobus Odendaal, CEO for Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty in Johannesburg and Randburg.

This home in Linden offers four bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, a patio and sparkling pool. It is selling for R4.15 million - click here to view.

"Its beautiful houses, many of which have been sympathetically restored are well-priced and the suburb offers a wide selection of clusters, townhouses and apartments in a friendly, secure environment. The original farmhouse which still exists in the heart of the suburb, and has been restored to its former glory with the typical old-fashioned verandah echoed in many other Linden homes, contributes to the small, exclusive feel within the greater city, explains Odendaal.

"It’s also a great location for convenience as it offers easy access to major roads, highways, shopping centres and some of the best private and government schools.
