In order to continue to upskill estate agents, the Institute of Estate Agents, Western Cape, is running a mix of content relevant workshops and training sessions, for which agents will receive CPD (continued professional development) points at one point per hour and a certificate for attending.
The sessions below are viewable and bookable online.
- The Graham Gavin series of workshops will take place on 15 October. The workshops are aimed at giving agents the tools to create the foundation of a real estate business based on repeat business and referrals.
He aims to teach attendees consistency in achieving results. This will be covered in an evening session to be held at the STBB Chambers in Claremont and will be run from 5pm to 7:45pm.
This workshop is free for members and R150 for visitors. It has been generously sponsored by Graham Gavin, STBB Attorneys, Thunderbolt Sound and Ready to Send, MFP Office Automation and Currencies Direct. Agents will receive two non-verifiable personal CPD points.
- A recruitment workshop called Recruit Right, sponsored by Get It Right, will run on 23 October from 9:30am to 1:30pm. It is not solely for those working in property, but for anyone in a management or recruiting position who could benefit from learning how to recruit correctly from the outset.
The aim is to address recruitment issues and simplify the process within the law. The cost of this workshop is R350 for members and R550 for non-members. Agents will receive three non-verifiable professional CPD points.
- A two-day residential rental course will be held on 10 and 11 November, from 9:30am to 1:30pm, the cost of which is R1 400 for members and R1 650 for non-members.
The course covers practical aspects of renting residential property including marketing, attracting tenants, late payments, problem tenants, the Consumer Protection Act, legislation, evictions and many case studies. This course will assist to improve and grow any lettings business. Agents receive three non-verifiable professional CPD points for attendance.
- A residential rental inspections workshop will be held on 12 November, the cost of which is R500 for members and R750 for non-members. This workshop has been developed because this vital part of rentals is often neglected, with devastating results, says Evans.
The aim is to cover what to do and what not to do regarding incoming and outgoing inspections, thus protecting the client and agency from unnecessary and unexpected costs. Agents receive four non-verifiable professional CPD points for this course.
- A one-day advanced residential rental course is to be held on 13 November, the cost of which is R1 000 for members and R1 200 for non-members.
This course is ideal for seasoned agents, or anyone having attended the first residential rental course, to gain insight on how specific case law affects rental businesses and learn how to apply the law to their rental business. Agents receive four non-verifiable professional CPD points for attending.
