The Johannesburg billing crisis will soon be over claims the City of Joburg’s revenue spokesman Kgamanyane Maphologela who says that technical glitches in the computer system have been resolved so that residents will all start to benefit from a better service from the city.
The council says that it received more than 65 000 complaints’ relating to its billing system but Maphologela says that 80% of those affected by the billing problems have been contacted by the council and their problems rectified or resolved.
Apparently there are still 13 162 queries that have to be sorted out.
The city is offering a discount to residents who are battling to pay their accounts and Maphologela says that so far 867 customers have logged a query with the council and have applied for a discount.
Customers who cannot pay the full amount of their bill are advised to contact the council officials and make an arrangement to pay the outstanding balance and take advantage of any discounts that might apply.
Anyone interested in applying for a discount on the municipal bills can contact the call centre on 011-375-5555
The council currently sends out about 1,2-million statements at the end of every month.

This is totally wrong, in my experience. If “sorted” means called once a month to say how much they care about it and yet DOING NOTHING, then it is sorted. We have a query and dispute on our property in Parktown North going back to the introduction of the new system (more than a year ago). We have contacted not less than 20 people and nobody actions anything. Lots of empty promises and “we really care and working on it”. Please feel free to contact me for the details, if you wish.- Daniel
